Merging and splitting for forward and inverse scattering

We will present a merging-splitting approach for rapid
solution of the Lippmann-Schwinger equation for volume scattering
calculations in two dimensions. Time permitting, we also wish to
discuss its potential application to the inverse scattering problem
where a splitting procedure appears to separate the nonlinear part
from the ill-posed part of the inverse problem, and render the former
trivial to deal with.
