Course Goals:
The purpose of this course is to:
- Learn common design rules for user interfaces (and avoid common mistakes!)
- Explore the ways that cognitive and perceptual science impact user interface design
- Understand principles related to creation of a natural user interface
- Consider how interfaces must change to support different input modalities, such as gestures, voice, etc.
- Apply principles, patterns and design processes to a larger project.

Jeff Johnson Designing with the Mind in Mind, Simple Guide to Understanding User Interface Design Rules

Late Policy:
Because the in-class activities will be done in teams based on chapter readings, homework and additional research, late submissions of those exercises, as well as reading assignments, will not be accepted (barring major illness or similar extenuating circumstances).
- Chapter Questions: not accepted after due date (normally the day when an in-class exercise is done relating to that chapter)
- Chapter Exercises: not accepted after the class following when the exercise is concluded.
- Other: -2 points/day
